Mac Quickstart
Use this path for an Apple-silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later.
Availability check
The macOS channel is currently unavailable. Stop until it reports status: active with one accepted entry.
Before you begin
- Confirm that the macOS host channel is
status: activeand names one accepted package. - Sign in to Tailscale on the Mac and iPhone.
- Choose a terminal workflow. Install Codex only for the setup-validated Codex auto-launch path. Provider-neutral shell-only setup requires no Codex executable; Claude Code and Gemini CLI remain provider-specific validation in progress.
- Back up important work.
Do not replace an unavailable package with source code, an unsigned engineering build, or a guessed download URL.
One command after Installer
When the channel is active:
- Download its exact signed, notarized, and stapled package.
- Verify the published version, file size, and SHA-256.
- Open the package and complete macOS Installer without bypassing Gatekeeper.
- From an ordinary terminal, run
terminal-ios-host setupfor the validated Codex path, orterminal-ios-host setup --shell-onlyfor a managed login shell that does not require Codex. - Review the host, endpoint, and product-owned terminal session, then confirm.
- Approve the required macOS trusted-ingress step.
- In Terminal iOS, choose Add Host, scan the fresh QR, confirm the host identity, and wait for
Live.
Setup creates or reuses a private product-owned terminal session. It does not adopt the terminal where the command was entered or rewrite tmux configuration. Using an existing tmux session is an explicit advanced recovery option.
Check the connection
Run a harmless command, test Enter and scrollback, background and foreground the app, then force-close and reopen it. Your host session should remain alive through each phone disconnect.
If any identity, certificate, signature, or readback check fails, stop and use the recovery guide.
